TexQuest: Access and Customization

Reliable online resources for Texas public schools provided with support from the Texas Legislature

Access FAQs

WHERE CAN MY USERS ACCESS TEXQUEST RESOURCES?
When a district signs up for TexQuest, the TexQuest Support Center sends all TexQuest Contacts (Primary, Librarian, Curriculum, and Tech Director) links for each provider. These links should be made available in multiple locations on district and/or campus websites. Direct links and images to specific provider resources are available at TexQuest.net/imagesandlinks

WHAT IS MY TEXQUEST USERNAME AND PASSWORD?
After signing up, districts are sent a default username and password from the TexQuest Support Center. This username/password combination will work with all TexQuest resources (the username for Gale is embedded in the link). Districts/campuses may share usernames and passwords with students, faculty, and students' immediate families within the district; however, usernames and passwords should not be published on open websites. Districts also have the option to customize their username and password.

WHY CAN'T I ACCESS THE GALE RESOURCES USING MY CUSTOMIZED USERNAME AND PASSWORD FROM TEXQUEST.NET?

The easiest method to access the Gale resources is to use your custom district/campus Gale link, http://galepages.com/j+TEA#. Since the Gale username is already embedded in the custom link, users only need to type the password.

The Gale username cannot be customized, so to access from the TexQuest website, you must use the default username, also called the Gale Location ID:  j+6 digit TEA# for district, or j+9 digit TEA# for campus.

If you do not know your TEA number, look up District or Campus.

HOW DO I OBTAIN WIDGETS, ICON IMAGES, AND DIRECT LINKS TO PLACE ON MY SCHOOL/DISTRICT WEB PAGES?
Go to Provider Support to access the provider support pages or Images and Links under the Connect tab on TexQuest.net.

MY DISTRICT ISSUES CHROMEBOOKS TO STUDENTS. ARE CHROMEBOOKS COMPATIBLE WITH TEXQUEST RESOURCES?
Yes, Chromebooks can be used to access all TexQuest resources.

IS THERE A GUIDE THAT INDICATES WHICH TEXQUEST RESOURCES ARE USEFUL BY SCHOOL LEVEL?
Yes. The TexQuest Resource Guide categorizes the TexQuest resources by school level and includes the features and content available in each resource. The guide may be downloaded, saved to your computer, modified to fit your campus needs, printed, and distributed to teachers.

Add a New Campus to TexQuest

THERE IS A NEW CAMPUS(ES) IN MY DISTRICT; WILL THEY AUTOMATICALLY BE INCLUDED IN TEXQUEST AND WHO DO I NOTIFY OF THESE CHANGES?

Yes. Since TexQuest participation is for the entire district, it includes all campuses in the district, including new campuses

If you customize by campus and there is a new campus in your participating TexQuest district, please notify Liz Phillipi at TSLAC with: new Campus Name and Campus TEA Number - this information will be shared with the TexQuest providers.
If you do not know the new Campus’ TEA Number, use Campus LookupFor a list of campuses in your district, use District Lookup (type in district name and check "Include Schools").

NOTE: If you would like to request customized login credentials for a campus(es), contact the TexQuest providers directly; information can be found at the "HOW CAN I CUSTOMIZE MY CAMPUS ACCESS?" section of Campus Customization FAQs.

District Customization FAQs

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO CUSTOMIZE
Districts may customize district access to TexQuest resources by:

  • Requesting IP authentication
  • Requesting usernames and passwords that are consistent and easy to remember

- IP authentication allows users within a specific IP range immediate access to the TexQuest resources without entering a username and password. Check with your district technology professionals to supply your district’s public external IP gateway address or range. If a district IP authenticates, users must still log in with usernames and passwords from home.

HOW DO I CUSTOMIZE USERNAMES AND/OR PASSWORDS OR REQUEST IP AUTHENTICATION FOR MY DISTRICT?
Submit a TexQuest District Customization Request to change your district username and/or password, or to request IP authentication.
(If you cannot open the District Customization request link, copy and paste the wording from this Google document into an email, complete, and send to the TexQuest Support Center).

  • Provide your ESC number, District Name, District TEA Number, and Requested District Username and Password). If you do not know your TEA number, lookup District.
  • For IP authentication, provide your district's public external IP gateway address or range (check with your IT Department for this information).
  • The TexQuest Support Center will send the customized district username and password and IP information (if applicable) to all TexQuest providers. If the username and/or password you request is not available, we will notify you via email to select an alternate.

The TexQuest Support Center does not handle campus customization requests, therefore, individual campuses should contact current and any future TexQuest providers directly to request campus custom usernames and passwords. See Campus Customization FAQs.

Login customization reminders

  • Usernames must be a minimum of 4 characters, be all lowercase, and not contain symbols.
  • Passwords must be at least 6 characters and no more than 12 characters
  • Usernames and passwords should not contain spaces
  • For EBSCO, Infobase, and ProQuest, usernames must be unique. If the username you request is already in use, you will be asked by email to supply an alternative.
  • Customized usernames do not apply to Gale resources. Gale provides a custom link for each TexQuest district with the user information embedded in the link.
  • Once you have customized, your default username and password should still work for all TexQuest providers.

ATTN: EBSCO now requires a stronger password which must contain the following:

  • A number
  • A special character such as (!, @, #)
  • Password must be at least 6 characters and cannot include your username
  • Password must be changed every 365 days
  • Username must be at least 5 characters

Districts may choose to customize EBSCO eBooks with a different custom username and password,
OR
Districts can select a password that satisfies the criteria above for ALL TexQuest providers.

(Note: If customizing for ALL providers & , ' # * < > = " and spaces are not allowed in usernames or passwords).

CAN I CUSTOMIZE MY DISTRICT ACCESS FOR JUST ONE OF THE TEXQUEST PROVIDERS?

No. When you customize your district username and/or password, they become effective for all TexQuest providers (customization does not apply to the Gale username, which is embedded in your custom link).

ONCE I CUSTOMIZE FOR MY DISTRICT, WILL THE DISTRICT DEFAULT USERNAME AND PASSWORD THAT WE WERE ASSIGNED STILL WORK?
District
default usernames and passwords will continue to work simultaneously with all current TexQuest providers.

IF NEW TEXQUEST PROVIDERS ARE ADDED, WILL I HAVE TO CUSTOMIZE MY DISTRICT AGAIN?
No. As new providers and resources are added to the TexQuest program, the Support Center will supply these providers with the current district customization information for all active TexQuest participants. If customization is not possible for new resources, this information will be shared via News and Updates and TexQuest X-Press, and the district library contact will be e-mailed.

Campus Customization FAQs

MUST I CUSTOMIZE MY CAMPUS ACCESS?
You do not have to customize by campus. That is a decision for your campus/district. Reasons campuses customize:

  • To access usage statistics by campus, as well as district.
  • Campus usernames and passwords for TexQuest providers (or other providers) have already been established.
  • Campus purchased additional resources from a TexQuest provider and must customize campus access with that provider so users can see all resources.

HOW CAN I CUSTOMIZE MY CAMPUS ACCESS?
You may customize your campus information with any or all of the TexQuest providers. Because campus customization procedures may vary, each provider should be contacted separately through the contact information below. Campus customization requests will not be submitted through the TexQuest Support Center.

EBSCO Access Changes

EBSCO has implemented new username and password requirements. Log in information not meeting these new criteria must be changed prior to December 31, 2019.
- Most EBSCO log-ins will be affected.
- Access information for EBSCO will need to be updated every 365 days.

See the EBSCO Access Update Flyer and EBSCO Access and Customization FAQs for detailed information on new usernames/passwords and how this will take place.

To make this easier for districts which now must annually update credentials for EBSCO only, district EBSCO log in access will be changed between July 1 and July 15, 2019.

If you have customized your campus username/password with EBSCO, that information may also have changed in July. Please contact EBSCO directly at texquest@ebsco.com or 800-653-2726 x 3268 for your new credentials or to change your customized campus access for EBSCO only. The TexQuest Support Center does not handle campus access or customization requests.
